Fuk Luk Sau

Fuk Lak Sau is the god figure of wealth, good fortune and long life. Also known as the Three Star Deities, Fuk Lak Sau is a common presence in a lot of Chinese and feng shui users’ homes.  Each one of the gods hold a specific object with a specific meaning, symbolizing their part of the process to achieve a great and happy life. Together they radiate good luck, blessings and inner harmony.

Fuk is shown with a child in his arms and is shown in a scholar’s dress. Fuk is in charge of giving good luck. His star is connected with the planet Jupiter. Fuk is sometimes known as Fu which is the character for good luck.  Luk holds a Ru Yi, or scepter of power and authority. He is shown as being dressed in the Mandarin. In ancient China, he was respected as the god who ruled over success in the highest imperial examinations. Luk is also sometimes represented as ‘Lu’, which specifically represents the salary of a government official. Luk represents authority, prosperity and influence. Sau is shown cupping a peach in his hand; this is a symbol of youth, good health, beauty and immortality. His star is said to rule over the length of mortal’s lives. He is shown with a smile and being happy.

• Important places- It is recommended that you place the gods in a place of importance in order to praise them. You can place them on a high stand of desk in an important part of your home.
• Front Desk - It is believed that placing the gods in this area will bring you financial luck.
• Facing Dining Table - By placing the gods here, you will be attracting blessings and abundance and luck for your family.
• On a Table or shelf of at least 3 feet high- by placing the gods here it is believed that you will be taking care of your family’s fortune.
• The Office- it is believed that placing the three gods in this location will bring you success and assistance in your career.

Fu Lu Shou are not prayed to or displayed on an altar. They are symbolic representations of the important stars and therefore have a more casual presence than a bodhisattva or other gods. These gods should not ever be displayed in the bathroom, bedroom or kitchen.
