Kwan Yin (Kuanyin, Guan Yin) is the divine Goddess of charity and compassion. She is revered as “the one who hears the cries of the world.” In Mahayana Buddhism her name is Avalokitesvara. In this school of Buddhism it is believed that if you properly chant her name, you will be transported to a heart of a lotus flower. This will then lead to you spending the rest of your days peacefully and happily in a Western heaven.
There is also the belief that chanting the mantra “om mani padme hum” in front of a statue of Kwan Yin will draw her to one’s side in times of need. This is where she will offer guidance in working through tragedies like grief, illness, depression, relationship problems, and family drama. She will help those who feel lost and are shrouded in negative energy. Kwan Yin offers hope and a bridge to a better way of life.
Kwan Yin’s tale is empowering and inspiring. She gained great experience, intelligence and wisdom over the course of her life and got to the point where she was to be given enlightenment. However, instead of becoming a Buddha and being sent to a higher plane, she instead chose to stay on earth as what in known as a “Pu Sa.” This way she could help anyone who needed her. She vowed to never rest until she could help all sentient beings reach enlightenment.
It is believed that this day she is known to help guide people to both higher knowledge and protection. This way she helps bring good karma to humans and show them to the heavens where they can find happiness and tranquility. She comforts the ill and the old with her presence and is adored by all of mankind for her generosity.
Place the Kwan Yin statue in the family room or living room, facing the main entrance or at your praying alter. She will reject any negative energy from entering your home, help you to overcome obstacles and calm tensions and disagreements in the family.
It is because Kwan Yin is a highly respected goddess she should not be displayed any lower than 3 feet above ground and never in the bedroom, kitchen or bathroom.
