The image of a goddess with a white umbrella, Ushnisha Sitatapatra, represents the feminine form of Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion. The umbrella she carries is thought to extend protection to all who pray to her against illness, tragedy, misfortune, accidents, evil and natural disasters. She also protects from backstabbing and slander when placed in the office.
Practitioners will recite her mantra, calling for her attention and mercy as it is thought she watches over the world and extends compassion to all, but will provide personal intervention if asked.
