The Four Heavenly Kings or Gods are the guardians of the world and battlers of evil who rule over the four cardinal directions of the compass. According to Buddhist lore these kings live on the lower slopes of Mount Sumeru, the base of the desirous heavens, where they remain close to humankind. Each Heavenly King commands a legion of supernatural creatures ready to leap to battle of dark energies at any time. They are vowed to protect the dharma and Buddha’s followers and so are very useful in Feng Shui. Three times in a lunar month (the 8th,14th and 15th) the Four Heavenly Gods are said to visit earth to see how man is faring. They are said to be 750 feet tall and live for nine million years.
